1. AMMONITE INSCRIPTIONS
Tall al-Mazar letter (ostracon n°3): New readings
In 1986 J. Teixidor and Y. Kassine published a series of seven inscriptions discovered during the excavations at Tall al-Mazar, Jordan. The most interesting item was an ostracon containing the text of a letter (inscription No 3). Thanks to good photographs, I have reexamined this inscription and I propose seven corrections and four possible new readings in an article to appear in the next issue of Semitica: “Notes épigraphiques : l’ostracon n°3 de Tell el-Mazar”, Semitica 54 (2011), in press. I will also present these results in the next ASOR meeting (November).
Hisban ostracon A1: New readings
In 1975 Frank M. Cross published several ostraca found during the excavations of Tall Hisban, Jordan. During a visit at the Amman Citadel Museum, I have been able with my friend Michael Weigl (from the University of Vienna) to examine most of these inscriptions, makings photographs and drawings of the originals. We published in 2009 an article in ADAJ proposing a new collation of Ostracon A1, with many new readings and a new translation. Read more.
